My husband & I are looking to purchase an exercise bike, but we don't know which type is best for us.  How does a spinning bike differ from a stationery bike?  Recumbant bikes appear more comfortable, but which gives a better workout?  I'm hesitant to go for the recumbant due to its size.

Dear Rose,

The spin bike is the better cardio workout...it's designed to feel like real outdoor cycling.  You can sit or stand on the bike, and its a very smooth motion.  Spin bikes are used in gyms for their high intensity cardio classes.

We have some great reconditioned spin bikes on BigFitness.com, the Star Trac Johnny G, and the SchwinnPRO....there are also some new spin bikes by Multi-Sport, the ENC series that are on the website as well.

If you have any other questions you can call me at 1-800-567-4909.

Thanks,

Kerrie:)

A spinning bike may be harder on your back. Other than that no real difference. It may target muscles a little different due to posture but I can't prove that. Just my opinion. :)

Just my opinion. :)Not quite. You should know how to postuer yourself. The greatness about spin bikes is that it simulates better the outdoor cycling. You can train at higher intensity than just a regular stationary bike.
